Taking to the stage
THE stage is set for the Yeoman of the Guard.
The production, A Gilbert and Sullivan, opened on Saturday, June 23 at the Maleny High School Activities hall for a Gala night.
The Maleny Signers have been working on the production since January and the group's president Barry Harber said it had been a great journey.
"The Maleny Signers is a great group especially for the retired to keep doing what they love to do," he said.
"It is a very interactive experience.
"We have been working hard since the beginning of the year to get this show ready.
"So much has been happening to build the sets, paint them; we have a 20 piece orchestra working on the show.
"For us it is a really big production especially considering everyone involved lives in or around Maleny."
The Yeoman of the Guard is a dramatic operetta set in the time of Henry the eighth at the tower of London.
"Guests can expect to see a great show," Barry said.
"There are between 30 and 40 people on stage, the show is melodic and the most dramatic of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
"The storyline is basically about an aristocratic colonel falsely imprisoned and the Yeoman plot to help him escape.
"There is also a side plot about a travelling jester. There is a secret romance, beheading, conspiracy; a great production."
Tickets cost $25 and are available from the information centre or phone 54942584.
Show times:
Saturday, June 30 from 6.30pm
