Stosur first reserve for WTA Championship in Turkey

SAMANTHA Stosur will be hoping for a miracle to play in the season-ending WTA Championships in Turkey after suffering a disappointing three-set defeat to former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki in the Kremlin Cup.

Stosur is the first reserve for the tournament which starts in Istanbul tonight and features the top eight players in the world.

She had a 3-1 lead in the final set in Moscow, but allowed the Dane to fight back before having her own service broken in the 12th game to hand Wozniacki her 20th career title 6-2 4-6 7-5.

The Australian is ranked ninth in the world after a season in which she failed to win a title, and will only get a spot in the finale if any of the top eight decides to pull out.

"I'm going to Istanbul tonight, will have one day to prepare myself, and if I get a chance to play there, I think I'll be ready," Stosur said.

Australian Open winner and world No.1 Victoria Azarenka will be favourite for the tournament, which also includes US and Wimbledon champion Serena Williams and French Open winner Maria Sharapova.

The others in the line-up are: Agnieszka Radwanksa, Angelique Kerber, Petra Kvitova, Sara Errani and Li Na.
