Slipper accused of betraying his electorate on carbon tax
WITHIN 48 hours of resigning as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Peter Slipper has broken a major campaign promise and voted with the government in support of the carbon tax, LNP candidate for Fisher said today.
"There can be no greater betrayal to the families of Fisher," Mr Brough said.
Before resigning from the LNP and becoming an independent, Mr Slipper supported the Coalition in its campaign against the carbon tax.
Mrl Brough said the worry of cost of living increases and sky-rocketing electricity bills in particular are what residents raise with him most often.
"At the first opportunity Peter Slipper has joined Prime Minister Gillard and gone back on his word deserting Fisher families" Mr Brough said.
"This is despite his long-held public assertion that the carbon tax was bad for Australia.
"He has abandoned all semblance of principal by voting with Labor against the coalition motion calling on the government to immediately abolish all liability and scrap the carbon tax.
"With an action like this it is no wonder the community find it hard to maintain respect for politicians and the political process."
