Police work hard to get their men
IT HAS been almost a month since the Sunshine Coast's last armed hold-up and detectives are hoping a string of arrests may have been the deterrent.
Seven of this year's 25 reported armed hold-ups remain unsolved, with the rest of the offenders serving jail time or due to face court.
Police are now focusing their attention on 10 men suspected in the remaining unsolved offences, which date back to January this year.
Maroochydore CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said detectives from all districts were working together to solve the crimes.
"It is certainly good that it has slowed at the moment, although we are still working hard to track down the offenders from the unsolved cases," Snr Sgt Edwards said.
"We have been able to share information with our crews in Caloundra, Nambour and Noosa and because of that we have a better chance of catching these guys."
Sunshine Coast police were on alert yesterday after a man and a woman held up a bakery at Burpengary with a sawn-off shotgun.
The pair allegedly threatened a female attendant with the firearm before they were seen fleeing in a white Holden Commodore along the north-bound lanes of the Bruce Hwy towards the Coast at about 9.30am.
Police patrolled the Caloundra and Beerwah entrances to the Coast searching for the offenders.
Snr Sgt Edwards said the practice of assisting other areas in catching criminals was crucial to putting an end to the crime spree.
The male offender was described as Caucasian, in his 40s, about 180cm tall with a slim build and short dark brown hair.
The woman was described as Caucasian, in her 20s, about 170cm tall with a heavy build.
