A GRANDFATHER was recently sentenced for downloading child pornography, as he ventured into a dark world that exploits the innocent, for the "entertainment" of a depraved minority.
The sexual exploitation of children around the world is battled by government and non-government agencies. Perpetrators who access these images on their computers, from the comfort of their homes, are tracked down by law-enforcement agencies. As the demand for this filth continues, more innocent little ones have their lives turned into a nightmare.
Situations like this go beyond the comprehension of the vast majority of us and we may feel that there is little that we can do to change such a scenario.
I would like to challenge this.
How we choose to live our lives in our own environment, impacts our family. Our family, as it engages with the community, takes with it the impressions from home. As we support the forming of character in our children, we can plant seeds that express revolt at the exploitation of any person.
This stance with our children is then backed up by our own integrity as we say no to forms of media or products that subversively encourage the degradation of others.
Joining a campaigning movement such as the Collective Shout at collectiveshout.org will help to ensure that you stay up-to-date with the fight against the "objectification of women and the sexualisation of children in the media, advertising and popular culture". As stores
market items to teens that carry pornographic pictures and derogatory words you can build awareness and join with others to campaign against corporate giants feeding off our children.
Would you like your 13-year-old to come home with a T-shirt, from the brand Two in The Shirt (TITS) featuring porn stars on the front together with some unbelievable prose, or perhaps a shirt from Hustler brand whose connection is a pornographic magazine? No, these aren't just accessible on-line from some B-grade outlet, but from a popular store near you.
Pressure from Collective Shout and others saw the removal of cups from another store that said Porn is my Saviour and had the word Dirty written over the picture of a naked woman.
If we don't think we can impact child sexploitation, we are wrong.
There are legitimate issues in our own backyard that contribute to this mindset. Don't be fooled that this is only a fight for moral fanatics who aren't up with the current fashion. This is about stopping young people from being exposed to pornography and then being misled into thinking that it is acceptable.
Pressure from a society that refuses to accept using women or children for the purposes of sexploitation provides assurance that the innocent can remain that way in their formative years without fear that they can be looked upon as prey.
Only 200m level stroll from the beautiful Noosa River, this character filled residence is one of eight stand alone townhouses and offers peace and privacy. ...
