Maleny model hits the big time
PIYUSHA Yamaoka is one step closer to her dream of becoming the next Miranda Kerr after being selected to model in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane next month.
The 17-year-old Maleny resident of African/Japanese decent has been selected to model in the Flight Centre Swim and Resort wear Group Show and the Mercedes-Benz Group Show.
Piyusha was one of 250 models who tried out for a coveted spot in what is now considered Queensland's premier fashion show.
Only 60 models were selected for the runway shows.
Piyusha said she was very excited to have been selected.
The 17-year-old of African and Japanese descent started modelling a year ago after winning the Brisbane Airport Fashions on the Runway and signing with Vivien's Model Management in Brisbane.
Piyusha said she loved to model and wanted to turn her passion into her career.
"Modelling is such an amazing feeling," she said.
"It allows you to show off your personality, have fun and it's a great opportunity to dress up and look beautiful as well.
"When I finish school I want to study law and international relations and do modelling at the same time.
"My dream is to become a Victoria's Secret supermodel and then use my status to help underdeveloped nations and create peace and harmony in the world."
Piyusha will need to travel back and forth daily to Brisbane during the festival, juggling her school commitments at Sunshine Coast Grammar.
The event will run from Saturday, August 25 to Friday, August 31.
