Maclean girls make a late show
FUN AND excitement are just some of the reasons three women have joined the race to become Maclean Showgirl.
"I just decided to do it, it will be fun," Casey Drew, 18, said.
Ms Drew moved to the Lower Clarence five years ago and finished high school in Maclean.
She moved from Tenterfield where the family had a large property.
"A lot of my friends had cattle and I would help them with that," she said.
"I almost learned to ride a horse there as well."
Having a go at becoming Maclean's Showgirl was just a part of growing up in the area, entrant Bianca Cotten, 18, said.
"I first remember seeing the Showgirls from when I was about seven years old," she said.
"It is just something I wanted to do."
Melissa Wilson, 19, has grown up in Maclean and wanted "to be part of something that is a big tradition around here and learn more about the local area".
The women decided to enter a few days ago and wasted no time, considering the deadline, for entries closed today.
"They all seem lovely girls," showgirl co-ordinator Nancy Brown said.
The judging process includes an interview on Saturday afternoon, followed by a more informal process over dinner with family and the show committee.
