Joint community forum raises vital funds to fight quarry at Yandina Creek

MORE than 100 people attended a joint progress association-Sunshine Coast Environment Council forum that raised $10,000 towards the community's legal costs to stop a quarry operating near their Yandina Creek homes.

The Yandina Creek Progress Association has joined with Sunshine Coast Council to defend a planning court appeal expected to take place during the first half of next year.

The council has gathered eight expert witnesses to help defend the reasons for its 13-0 refusal of the quarry application. The council and the developer Parkland Blue Metals will appear at a planning court hearing today (Friday) where the scheduling will be determined.

Cr Steve Robinson who, along with Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington, attended the forum assured residents the council remained adamantly opposed to the quarry.

Mr Wellington said 30 years ago the location might have been appropriate, but since then massive rural residential development had occurred.
