Cafe dishes up a year of kindness

KIND Living Café is turning one.

And to celebrate they will be throwing a bit of a party.

Owner Lucy Walter said she was overwhelmed by the amount of support the café had received during the past 12 months.

"My husband and I have been blown away by the support of the town," Lucy said.

"We had no idea people would respond so well to what we had to offer.

"We now have people travelling long distances to dine with us, which is a wonderful compliment."

Lucy said she and her husband opened Kind Living Café because she wanted a place where she could eat out.

"I have been vegetarian for most of my life but it wasn't until I was diagnosed with an illness a few years ago that we realised I needed to make radical changes to my diet and lifestyle," Lucy said.

"I started a raw plant-based diet as a healing process and the difference is like night and day in regards to my health.

"The problem then was that there are so few places I could go to eat.

"So I decided to open a cafe myself.

"I have always had a love for animals and am completely against mass produced, factory farmed animals, and believe you can eat amazing food without hurting yourself, the planet or the animals."

The Maleny local said there was never another choice but Maleny to open her café.

"This is where I call home and it made sense to create something that is so dear to my heart in the place I love the most," Lucy said.

Lucy said she had big plans for the future.

"We hope to be able to offer breakfast, take home dinners and weight loss programs soon," she said.

"We are also developing a cooking school and my recipe book is almost finished, which is exciting as it's another way to share my love of healthy kind food."

Kind Living Café will be running a competition throughout May to celebrate their first year in business. Visit them on Maple St in Maleny.
