JUST 18 overs were bowled in yesterday's Queensland versus Victoria clash at the Gabba before rain set in, but they were 18 crucial overs.

After resuming at 6-103, the visitors were able to pass the Bulls' paltry first innings total of 149.

With so much rain about, the Vics tellingly gained first innings points at 6-174, with Matthew Wade (70 not out) and Peter Siddle (51 not out) causing more frustration to the Queensland bowlers.

Wade's strong form with the bat ensured New South Wales gloveman Brad Haddin, almost 35, would face even more of an uphill battle to fight his way back into the Australian Test team as the wicketkeeper/batsman.

Meanwhile, South Australia was in trouble at the conclusion of day three against Tasmania at Adelaide Oval yesterday.

After Tasmania punished the home side to be 3-403 (dec), the hosts were bowled out for 224. Sent back in, the Redbacks crawled to 6-103 at stumps.

Quicks Luke Butterworth (2-18) and Jackson Bird (2-29) were the pick of Tasmania's bowlers in the Redbacks' second innings, after Butterworth starred with the ball (6-49) in South Australia's first dig.
