IT WAS elementary for Shane Watson.

The big-hitting all-rounder signed a three-year deal with the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League because he wanted to come home and play, and do it under coach Darren Lehmann.

"Boof (Lehmann) is a great bloke and has made a really big impact as a coach since he went down that path," the Ipswich-born Watson, who was on the books of the Sydney 6ers last year, but didn't play a game, said. "I know the Queensland boys have really enjoyed their cricket under him and it seems a really great fit for me to join the Heat and get to work with him.

"I love T20 cricket and I'm looking forward to being back home playing in front of friends and family."

Watson's signing takes the Heat playing list to 12. Teams have until 5pm tomorrow to sign a mininmum of 14 players with a maximum of 18 to be finalised by November.

Elsewhere, the Melbourne Stars signed James Pattinson, Clint McKay and James Faulkner, while Doug Bollinger has joined the Hobart Hurricanes.
