Sunshine Coast ironman Ali Day has taken out the 2012 Coolangatta Gold, with Mooloolaba competitors occupying the top three spots in the famous race.

Day was a comfortable winner in his first attempt at the 47km race today.

He finished in front of his Mooloolaba teammates Alex Tibbits and Josh Minogue in second and third respectively.

North Burleigh ironwoman Brodie Moir took out the women's race in a sprint finish from the Gold Coast's Courtney Hancock.

Hancock's sister Bonnie finished third. Mooloolaba's Kelly-Ann Perkins was the best of the Coast competitors in sixth with Noosa's Jordan Mercer in seventh and Mooloolaba's Teish Jenkins in eighth.
