Welcome to St Mary's College Community
Our College is unique and fortunate because of our ties with St Mary’s Parish and the richness we have retained from our original links with the sisters of St Joseph, sisters of Mercy and the Christian Brothers. The College has provided Catholic education for the Maryborough/Hervey Bay District for over 100 years as the Christian Brothers established the College on its present site in 1888. Now, we are a parish owned Catholic secondary co-educational college under the auspices of Catholic Education Office in Brisbane. Our enrolment is approximately 460 students. The College is well resourced with up-to-date facilities. However, the brick and mortar facilities only form the body of the College. Its heart and soul lies in the relationships in the community and in the learning opportunities presented. As a Catholic College, gospel values are central to our mission.
We hope to enable all students to be the persons they are called to be. Therefore, we strive to provide a holistic education, focusing not just on the academic development of students but on their physical, social, emotional and spiritual development as well. College life is never still or unchanging as we strive to keep our curricular offerings current and relevant. Even though personal academic excellence is valued, our students receive broad experiences in co-curricular activities. In the cultural area, the College Band and String Ensemble perform locally and are indicative of the standard of excellence the College strives to achieve. Debating and public speaking are important skills learned in our College. On the sporting, field students excel by challenging themselves to do their best.
However, St Mary’s greatest strength lies in Pastoral Care. Students are welcomed and cared for within the context of a small community where each student is valued. Because of the size of the College, students can work closely with a small number of teachers to ensure they gain the most from their education. This, combines with supportive parents and a caring and dedicated staff, creates a real send of family and community.
